This proposal called for an
addition/renovation to a 1981 suburban residence that
included a kitchen/lounge, a master dressing room and
master bath renovation. The client frequently entertained
so the new layout had to accommodate both the vitality of
many users and the serenity of one user. The new space(s)
form an entry court and the long kitchen/lounge wall faces
South and is composed of many small apertures. The wall
acts as a sort of gallery but instead of pictures, the
apertures form frames of light. The client requested a
formal dining room but also wished that the dining,
kitchen, lounge space be linked as one spatially for the
purposes of entertaining. The solution was to fashion two
sliding doors that make the corner of the dining room
directly adjacent to the kitchen/lounge thereby allowing
the space to mutate freely from one kind of space to
another.
