This proposal called for an addition and renovation to a 1950 suburban "ranch burger" which included a kitchen makeover, adding a screened porch and entry vestibule. An upper level was also added which included a informal living "nest", outdoor terrace and master suite. With simple materials and a simple budget, the project uses existing brick and common corrugated metal siding as the primary exterior cladding. The project always deals in shifting dualities and patterns: existing/new, solid/void, proportion 1:2, etc... The design uses passive house techniques so that, even though the square footage was doubled, the utility bills remained at the pre-addition cost!
